Exploration of form, color, and ordering principles to make connections visible in more significant amounts of data. The result is a programmed, clickable prototype.
At the beginning of the project, the task was to find a suitable data set. During the research, I came across the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) website, which prepares various data sets on police crime statistics filtered according to individual parameters in tables. These statistics list all crimes in Germany between 2011 and 2020. Ultimately, I decided on the offense "Rape, sexual assault and sexual assault in a severe case, including death §§ 177, 178 StGB". The topic's time-relevant explosiveness and the data's diversity led to the decision to visualize this data set.
Is there a correlation between the federal states, the number of cases, and their clearance rate? And how do these relate to the number of inhabitants in the respective federal state?
How have the number of cases and their clearance rate changed over the last 30 years compared to other crimes?
Which gender is more likely to be a victim of this violent crime? What was the age of the victims?
From which country does the victim's rape in Germany come?
What is the relationship between victims to suspects?
